The film is about a group of renegade kids in a small country who end up taking things too far in their attempt to overthrow the government. The film opens with one of the children, Travis (Christian Cooke), discussing his new movie with his father, and explaining how he's been trying to improve the quality of the film they're going to make. Travis is a fairly well-educated and intelligent young man and explains how he's been reading up on literature and history to improve the quality of the film, which he plans to make into a documentary. He also explains that he's been working on this topic for a long time. What Travis doesn't mention is that he's also a member of an underground hacker group called Sublime and is working on a virus that would allow the group to take over the mainframe and control the entire country from the government.
The Green Inferno was a relatively low budget film, and for that reason it had quite a few of the standard problems associated with such a film, such as the inability to find green screen for the main set pieces, a lack of special effects, many flat shots, and a low budget soundtrack, but it still manages to present a story that's pretty interesting and worth watching.
As the movie opens Travis is about to shoot the opening scene of his movie and begins to give a lecture about the importance of fact-based history in the making of films. Of course Travis is interrupted by his brother, who gets the camera rolling and begins to film what was supposed to have been a private discussion. Travis quickly freaks out and chastises his brother, but he refuses to turn the camera off. In the ensuing argument, Travis's girlfriend, Emma (Kelsey Grammer), gets between the two, and Travis finally snaps and begins to beat her.
