Nilipiggy, thank you for the answer. Now I can run my solr7 and see how many threads I have running on the 8 cores of my computer. :-)
Ok so after some head scratching I found that it was the Jack thread which was killing it. So I killed it and started the solr service again. Sure enough the number of threads dropped to 8. So I ran your command again but on a different solr server and after looking at the output I saw that it was the Jack thread which was killing it. Same as my last attempt. Not very helpful.
Next step, I created a second index. It's on a different port and is a different collection. So I killed the Jack thread and started solr. Same as before. 8 threads running. And then I tried the same command again. It didn't find any indexes. So I deleted the indexes. It did find the indexes. So I ran the command again. Still 8 threads. So I killed the Jack thread. It found all the indexes again.
So I'm at a loss now. I don't understand why it's still only using the 8 cores. I can't see how it's killing the Jack thread. Also I need this command to work even if a lot of the indexes are unused. In fact if that's the case then there's no point in running it.
Ok. So I did some more digging and found this post: It seems to me that there are 2 ways of solving the issue.
1. Create a file that disables the Jack thread. I was able to do that. I opened up my solrconfig.xml file (a file that's in the conf folder) and added this line at the top:
After doing this and running the command I don't see any threads killed.
2. Create an index that is not in any collection. So I moved the index I was running out of my conf folder to a separate folder that didn't have any collection. So now I run the command again and this time I see no threads killed.
I'm concerned now that because the index is in a different folder that this may have a negative impact on the other indexes. I don't know.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again for the help.

I just tested with a few runs, and then made the 1-8 index switch.
@Marcos, adding the index without any collection is a bad idea. If you don't use the collection to parse and search on specific fields and terms, you might run into performance issues. My suggestion would be to run it with the Jack in each 0b46394aab
